Intelligent System for Organic Tweeting and Thoughtful Artistry
“Isotta – Intelligent System for Organic Tweeting and Thoughtful Artistry” is a digital art project that merges Steampunk aesthetics with contemporary Large Language Models (LLM), exploring the complex dynamics of time and technology. By deliberately disrupting the seamless automation of language technologies, Isotta prompts reflection on our complex relationship with an era of rapid social change.
Isotta incorporates an antique typewriter with an unusual input system, alongside a digital screen presenting the Twitter interface. The user’s task is to typewrite a tweet reflecting their perspective while grappling with the fast-moving influence of contemporary technologies. Rather than aiding the writing process, Isotta engages in a subtle form of competition, occasionally offering unexpected continuations that steer the user’s message in unfamiliar directions. As a result, the user faces a unique challenge in articulating their thoughts. Moreover, this competition is imbalanced, as the cumbersome interface significantly slows the user’s progress.
Through its challenging interactive experience, Isotta critiques our fast-paced existence, reimagining interactions with time and technology. It leverages the nostalgic charm of Steampunk to honor past innovations while commenting on current acceleration. This project invites users to explore alternative narratives, offering a platform to question the uniformity of contemporary technological advancement. Furthermore, it challenges the ongoing pursuit of frictionless interfaces in technology, questioning how a goal-oriented approach diminishes the meaningful encounters that a slower process can facilitate.
Isotta is part of the Disobedient Discursive Machines artistic concept, and can be exhibited alongside the other machines.
