Biography

Michele Cremaschi is a digital artist and PhD researcher whose work sits at the confluence of art, technology, and politics. Building on a robust foundation in both arts and science, Michele integrates technical expertise with creativity to delve into intricate societal issues.

His PhD research in Human-Computer Interaction examines the ideologies of Large Language Models, employing Steampunk critical design artefacts as a medium. This exploration is exemplified in his latest project, “Isotta – Intelligent System for Organic Tweeting and Thoughtful Artistry,” which has been showcased at prominent artistic events such as Ars Electronica 2023, and academic conferences such as CHI 2023 (Hamburg), DIS 2024 (Copenhagen), and CHItaly 2023 (Torino).

Within the Sineglossa cultural organisation, Cremaschi is crafting a formative framework that engages artists across disciplines with the themes and techniques of Machine Learning and Large Language Models, including reflections on the societal impact of AI.

Cremaschi’s distinctive blend of art and IT expertise shapes his practice, resulting in award-winning performances and installations celebrated across Europe, Asia, and beyond. His experience includes residencies at the L-EST/European Performing Arts and Transmedia Lab at Le Granit in Belfort, France, and at Teatro dei Venti – Trasparenze Festival. He has performed at esteemed festivals such as Santarcangelo, Ipercorpo, and the Edinburgh Fringe. His work with the Slapsus collective earned national recognition in Italy, highlighting his proficiency in visual comedy and physical theatre on television. Has been awarded of several prizes and production supports; among them, ETRE (Fondazione Cariplo), E45 Naples Fringe Festival, Innovacultura (Regione Lombardia), Ora! Produzioni Innovative (Fondazione San Paolo).

Beyond his creative work, Cremaschi is involved in research and academia, contributing to publications on augmented choreography and interactive digital systems.
